6. Visual Design of WIA-NOISE

Blue is the basic colour of the website.

Visual Design

- The page of the website is basically 600 x 480, which means the whole front page will fit into a browser without needing to scroll.

- The colour sheme is mainly different hues of blue (to denote seriousness, and its ease on the eyes) and purple (a feminist colour)

- The homepage will have a map of Asia in the middle of the webpage, which can be clicked to send the user to the page of country (summary) clicked.

- Dynamic aspects of the homepage consists of (updated once a fortnight):

a) Did you know that.. - short interesting facts about a cultural practice in one of the countries, to attract the initial audience as a form of teaser

b) Lesson from the past - a case study from one of the countries

c) A personal story from.. - a personal experience of women in discrimination legally, excarcebated through cultural norms. This story will be gotten either from the readers, or the network of women's organisations

d) A folk song from.. - a folk song from one of the countries, in lyrics as well as mp3. It is both entertaining, and hopefully serves as an eye-opener in how even folk songs can be sending discriminatory messages to the people. A short description about this analysis will be provided at the bottom of the page, after the lyrics.

e) Cartoons by Taka - cartoons in the context of the website by our regular, featured cartoonist, to keep the user engaged, and come back for new updates (a bit like doodie.com, but not about poo)

- Constant aspects of all the webpages within the website are:

a) Menu at top and bottom of the webpage, it consists of:

Home | About us | Country | Law | Culture | Resources | Links | Site Map | Contact Us

b) Side Navigation Menu:

Search Engine, searching our archives

Country: drop down menu to the six countries, which will lead them to the Summary of the country's page of the country chosen.

Law: drop down menu to the six countries, which will lead them to the Law page of the country chosen.

Culture: drop down menu to the six countries, which will lead them to the Culture page of the country chosen.

Resources: drop down menu to all the resources available, i.e. articles, case studies, personal stories, publications, folk songs, cartoons

Community: drop down menu to all the ways the user can interact with the website, i.e. discussion forum, subscribing to our mailinglist newsletter, signing our guestbook, joining our network as a member organisation, and sharing a personal experience.

c) The banner, logo, copyright and webmistress' contact will remain on all the pages, as set within the template.

These are so that at any time, the user can choose to interact, look for resources, change their focus or compare between law, culture and countries.

- The design is fairly simple, with not much flashy stuff, except for the JavaScript needed in the drop down menus. However, even if the user do not have the technological facility to view JavaScript, or has had it turned off, they are able to access to all the pages through the top or bottom menu.

- The feel of the website is to be informative and at the same time personal, with useful links and contacts, and hopes to be inciting enough new perspectives to be a platform for discussion and debate by the users.
