[WENT]  [Course Outline]

Pi Villanueva

I work as systems administrator and web developer for Isis Manila which is an international women's information and communications service organization with a focus on Asia and Pacific regions. I am also part of the web development team of the Asian Women's Resource Exchange which is the main organizer of WENT'99.

I have conducted some trainings on information and communication technology but basically with Philippine-based groups. The most interesting training I ran was for a group of girls ages 9-13 on making simple web page. It was also the most difficult. :) WENT'99 is my baptism of fire in providing training for diverse group of women.

Prior to joining Isis International Manila, I worked as a trainer of community organizers and rural community leaders. I continue to do some volunteer work for rural development organizations in my country. I am also part of a local collective of peace workers and conflict resolution advocates.

For me, our training is a success if : (1) participants and trainers are able to learn from each other; (2) trainers are able to effectively share their own learnings and skills with the participants; and (3) if everyone is able to have fun learning, and to go home inspired and full of energy.

Some of my plans after the training is to continue to provide training and technical support to all the participants and other women information and communication provider, and to use the insights I will gain from the training to improve the Asian Women's Resource Exchange information network and web site.

I just turned 35 last May 12. I have two children: Alex, 12; and Juno, 4. And a husband :)

In my spare time- which is becoming very very spare indeed:) -- I basically just sleep and read. Reading is a passion, as well as collecting recipe books (specially soup recipes). To which my daughter, Alex , once wondered, "You have so many recipe books, Nanay. But you don't have time to cook.!" Oh well. So if anyone of you like soups, let's share recipes.
