Reproductive
Tract Infections: An Introductory Overview
Reproductive
tract infections are being increasingly recognized as a serious
global health problem with impact on individual women and men, their
families and communities. They can have severe consequences, including
infertility, ectopic pregnancy, chronic pelvic pain, miscarriage,
and increased risk of HIV transmission.
For effective
prevention and management of RTIs, accurate information is necessary,
and should be widely available. These factsheets, produced by the
Population Council with support from the Ford Foundation, aim to
present up-to-date information related to RTIs in a clear and accessible
manner. They are designed for health promoters, program managers,
and service providers and
for anyone else involved in the dissemination of health information.
In addition to this brief introduction to RTIs, there are 13 factsheets,
addressing medical and social issues on a variety of topics related
to RTIs.
This is a very
